This is true but people aren’t at that stage yet. They’d much rather rifle through older content to find something or someone to cancel. Most of us are always quick to judge others before ourselves. Me included sometimes. We’re just more aware of it now because of social media. Highlighting a mistake someone made 10 or 20 years ago isn’t usually done with the intent to help them improve. It’s to chase attention or to make themselves feel superior to someone else. So whilst people continue to “cancel” someone or something with this mindset there will always be a “cancel culture”. Unfortunately it’s not the Timberlakes of the world who pay for this. It’s the people who haven’t amassed fortune or fame. Who say something politically incorrect, and when they are cancelled, are pushed further into their beliefs as they lose their job or are ridiculed online by thousands of people. Some of them may even be radicalised. After all, if thousands of people who you don’t know make you feel like crap and ostracise you, wouldn’t you want to join a group where you belong?
